FE analysis and experimental validation of mechanical wedge–barrel anchors for CFRP rods

This paper presents a comparative study of the geometrical optimization mechanical wedge–barrel anchors for prestressed carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) rods. Various anchor configurations were simulated using three-dimensional finite-element (FE) models. The FE models validated draw-ins wedges, which measured in static tensile tests. consisted steel barrel and aluminum taking advantage previous anchors. conical profile wedge different had either curve or constant differential angle. In addition, series geometric modifications introduced to at loading fillet cut. stress concentration on CFRP rod was evaluated failure index Fs Tsai–Wu criterion composite materials. results simulations showed that greater angle resulted smaller end led reduction concentration. with curved selected as optimal design because it smallest owing smooth transition distribution along profile.
